ORDINANCE NO. a) '
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 1, 4 AND 5, ARTICLE 8,
CHAPTER 6 (TRAFF]:C CODE), HAWAII COUNTY CODE, AS AMENDED.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. This ordinance is necessitated by the uncertainty
of the nation's energy situation
The purpose of this ordinance
is to conserve energy.
SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 10, adopted on December 5, 1973,
is hereby repeale=d.
SECTION 3. Section 1 of Article 8, Chapter 6 (Traffic
Code), Hawaii County Code, as amended, is hereby amended to
read as follows:
"SEC. 1. MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT
"No person shall drive a vehicle upon any highway
at a speed greater than fifty (50) miles per hour unless
otherwise specified by this Code."
SECTION 4. Item "D" of Section 4, Article 8, Chapter 6
(Traffic Code), Hawaii County Code, as amended, is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"D. FIFTY MILES PER HOUR On all highways
unless otherwise specified by this Code."
SECTION 5. Schedule 3 ("Speed Limits") of Section 5,
Article 8, Chapter 6 (Traffic Code), Hawaii County Code, as
amended, is hereby amended as follows:
1. Delete the six items under "SIXTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR"
and place the same six items under "FIFTY MILES PER HOUR."
2. Insert the following items under "FIFTY-FIVE MILES
PER HOUR":
"1. H<swaii Belt Road inbound into Hilo from
Volcano: from 100 :Feet Hilo side of Slaughter House
Road to 700 feet Puna side of Makalika Street.
"2. H<~waii Belt Road outbound from Hilo to
Volcano: from 500 :feet Puna side of Makalika Stree to
1,000 feet Hilo side of Keaau-Pahoa Road intersection."
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
