THE OLLOWING IS AN ORDINANCE TO INITIATE A CHARTER AMENDMENT
ENAB ING PERSONS OBTAINING THE AGE OF MAJORITY TO BE ELIGIBLE
FOR HE OFFICE OF COUNCILMAN, MAYOR AND PROSECUTING ATTORNEY.
BE I'C ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 3-3 of the Charter of the County of
is amended to read as follows:
"Qualifications. The person must be a citizen of the
United States of America and have been a resident of the
County for at least two (2) years and have attained the age
of majority prior to his election or appointment to the
County Council. Where residency in a district is a
requirement., the person must have been a resident of the
district from which he is to be elected or appointed for at
least two years immediately preceding his election or
appointment.. Should a Councilman who is elected to a seat
requiring residency in a district, cease to be a resident of
said district during his term of office, his seat shall
thereupon become vacant. Any Councilman who ceases to be
a resident of the County of Hawaii during his term of office
shall be deemed to have vacated his seat."
SECTION 2. Section 5-1.2 of the Charter of the County of
is amended to read as follows:
"Qualifications. Any citizen of the United States of
America who has obtained the age of majority and who has been
a resident of the County for at least three (3) years
immediately preceding his election as Mayor, shall be eligible
for the office of Mayor. The Mayor may serve for more than
two (2) terms of office but he shall not serve for more than
two (2) consecutive full terms of office."
SECTION 3. Section 9-2 of the Charter of the County of
Hawaii is amended to read as follows:
"Qualificationso The Prosecuting Attorney shall be an
attorney licensed to practice and in good standing before the
Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii. He shall be a citizen
of the United States of America and shall have obtained the
age of majority and shall have been a resident of the County
for at least two (2} years immediately preceding his election."
SECTION 4. Effective Date. Initiation of this Charter
amenctnent shall become effective upon approval and will automatically
stand repealed upon submission to the electorate of the County for
approval at the next general election.

AN ORDINAN(E TO INITIATE A CHARTER AMENDMENT ENABLING PERSONS OBTAINING
THE AGE OF MAJORITY TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMAN, MAYOR
AND PROSECLJTING ATTORNEY.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Ordinance passed third and final
