ORDINANCE NO. 281
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6, RELATING TO SUPPLEMENTARY
OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADING REGULATIONS, OF CHAPTER 8
(ZONING CODE), ARTICLE 26, HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1975, AS AMENDED.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. PURPOSE. In 1974, the County adopted
Ordinance No. 53, the Hilo Downtown Development Plan, which
was prepared in accordance with the mandate of Ordinance
No. 439, the County General Plan, to "implement a program to
revitalize downtown." The Hilo Downtown Development Plan has
suggested that the area bounded by Kinoole Street, Ponahawai
Street, Hilo Bay and the Wailuku River be designated on the
zoning map as an overlying Parking District, exempt from the
off-street parking requirements of the County zoning code.
For cultural, economic, and historical reasons, it is
imperative that Downtown Hilo be revitalized and rehabilitated.
SECTION 2. Section 6 of Chapter 8 (Zoning Code), Article
26, Hawaii County Code 1975, as amended, is hereby further
amended by adding a new section to read as follows:
"Sec. 6.01 EXCEPTIONS
The supplementary o:Ef-street parking regulations
of Sec. 6 above, shall not apply to that area in the
City of Hilo, bounded by Kinoole Street, Ponahawai
Street, an imaginary straight line extension of
Ponahawai Street into Hilo Bay and Wailuku River."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.

(Zoning Code), Article 26, Hawaii County Code 1975, as amended.
