Dear Chairman Arakaki and Members:
Effective on Monday, November 6, 2000, 1 am issuing an administrative waiver of
tipping fees for the Hilo and West Hawaii landfills due to emergency conditions
created by the thunder storm, high winds, heavy rains and floods that occurred
during the period of November 1-2, 2000. The tipping fee waiver will continue
from November 6 for a minimum of two weeks.
Tipping fees will be waived only for debris and trash created as a result of the
storm. Tipping fees will continue to be charged for regular solid waste disposal.
The County Department of Public Works will establish guidelines for certifying
that debris and trash was created as a result of the storm.
Thank you for your cooperation with this emergency measure that must be taken
immediately for the health and safety of our community.
