ORDINANCE NO:_ 5Q2
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 5 (GROUND TRt1NSPORTATION) OF THE
HAWAII COUNTY CODE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII.
SECTION 1. Chapter 5, Article 3, Section 8 of the Hawaii
County Code is amended as follows:
"SEC. 8 SPECIAL OPERATIONS
A. MULTIPLE LOADING
1. "Multiple loading" as used herein shall mean
individuals or groups of individuals, not
traveling together, who agree to share a taxicab
to destinations in the same area or along the
same route, from a co~mnon origin. (Multiple
loading when radio dispatched, may be
initiated from other than points of common
origin.)
2 Multiple loading of passengers is prohibited
except in cases where the first passenger engaging
the taxicab consents to such multiple loading.
3. Each separate party of individuals or groups of
individuals, not traveling together, who agree to
share a taxicab shall pay the normal shortest
route fare from point of origin to his or their
destination except that each such fare of $1.20
or more (not including nonmeter charges for baggage,
surfboards or bicycles) shall be reduced by twenty
per cent (20%).
4. A copy of a rate schedule containing the reduced
rates for multiple loading shall be posted
conspicuously within the taxicab in clear view of
passengers. The rate schedule shall be purchased
from the Transportation Commission."
[A. ADDITIONAL PASSENGER No driver shall permit any other
person to occupy or ride in a taxicab unless the
original passenger shall consent to the acceptance of
an additional passenger. No charge shall be made for
an additional passenger except when the additional
passenger rides beyond the previous passenger's
destination and in such case the charge shall be 'by
agreement between the driver and the additional
passenger; provided, however, the charge shall not
exceed the mileage rate between the pick-up point
and the additional passenger's destination by the
shortest direct route. Driver of taxicab equipped with
taximeter shall set the taximater in the employed
position until the destination of the first passenger
is reached. Thereafter for the remainder of the
trip the taximater shall be returned to the non-employed
position and a "special" sign shall be affixed to
the flag of the taximeter.]
SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New
material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets,
'bracketed material, and underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be effective upon
availability of rate schedules from the Transportation Commission.

HAWAII COUNTY CODE.
This Bill amends Chapter 5, Article 3, Section 8 of the
Hawaii County Code relating to Ground Transportation.
