ORDINANCE Nt3. ~~ ~~
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE, AS AMENDED,
RELATING TO TRAFFIC REGUIdATIONS .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL, OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 6, Article I, Section 3 of the Hawaii County
Code, as amended, is further amended by adding the following new
subsections:
"Sec. 3.200 Bicycle Lane.
That portion of any highway which has been set aside for the
preferential or exclusive use of bicycles."
"Sec. 3.201 Bicycle Path.
And ,facility set aside for the preferential or exclusive use of
bicycles and physically separated from a highway."
"Sec. 3.202 Bicycle Route
Any highway that is designated to be shared by bicycles and
pedestrians or motor vehicle~or both."
"Sec. 3.203 Bicycle/Walk Paths.
An existing sidewalk that is converted for use by both
pedestrian and bicyclists."
"Sec. 3.204 Bikeway.
A bic cle lane bic cle ath bic cle route or bic cle/walk
ath, or an traffic control device shelter arkin facilit or
other support facility to serve bicycles and persons using bicycles."
SECTION 2. Chapter 6, Article 13 of the Hawaii County Code, as
amended, is further amended by adding the following new sections:
"Sec. 3 Bike Lanese established.
A. The following areas once appropriately identified with
traffic control devicest s~ns~ signals, and/or markings by the Chief
Engineers or his representative, are hereby established as Bicycle banes.
SOUTH HILO
1. Kawili Streets both sides, betweeen Puainako Street and
Kilauea Avenue.
KONG
1. Kuakini Highway, mauka side, between Palani Road and the Old
Kona Airport . "
"Sec. ~a. Bike Routes established.
A. The following areas, once appropriately identified with
traffic control devices, signs signals, and/or markings by the Chief
En ineers or his re resentative are hereb established as Bic cle Routes.
SOUTH HILO
1. Kapiolani Street, both directions, between Kawili Street and
Lanikaula Street.
2. Kawili Street, both directions, between Kilauea Avenue and
Hawaii Community Collee@
SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New material is
underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed
material and underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance or the application
thereof to any person or circumstances is held invalid, such invalidity
shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance which
can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to
this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval
