Subject: Request to defer a vote on Bill ] 95
Dear Chairperson Arakaki and Members of the Hawaii County Council:
Aloha! Regarding the proposal to rezone 32 acres in Ola'a, from Agriculture
A - 20 to Industrial ~-Commercial Mixed Use Bill 195, please defer
action until the $1 F.5 million Kea'au bypass road is completed.
The traffic congestion is appalling and hazardous in the Kea'au area.
Accidents are notably plentiful and road rage is worsening day by day.
It would not be prudent to act with haste, to approve reclassification of
prime agriculture land where much of the surrounding area consists of raw
lava. A better strategy would be to have an accurate assessment of traffic
flow upon completion of the Kea'au bypass road.
Thus, the ramifications of decision making by this body, will be a true
reflection of the numerous motorists who daily commute on Highway 1 1,
the Volcano-Hilo route.
Mahalo for the opportunity to comment on Bill 195 and for your attention to
the serious implications involved in this proposal.
