BE I4' ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: SECTION 1. Chapter 11, article 5, section 11-43, Hawaii County Code 1983,_is amended as follows: "Section 11-43. Electrical equipment requirements. (a) All electrical equipment, wiring, and appliances shall be installed and maintained in a safe manner in accordance with all applicable laws. All electrical equipment shall be of an approved type. [(b) Where there is electrical power available within three hundred feet of the premises of any building, the building shall be connected to the electrical power. Every habitable room shall contain at least two supplied electric convenience outlets or one convenience outlet and one supplied electric light fixture. Every water closet compartment, bathroom; laundry room, furnace room, and public hallway shall contain at least one supplied electric light fixture.] (b) Where there is electric power supplied by a public utility available within three hundred feet of the premises of any building, the building shall be connected to such electrical power, unless said building is supplied electrical power by a system approved by a recognized testing agency, or an alternate energy system recognized by the Energy Division of the Hawaii State Department of Planning and Economic Development that is: (1) Designed by an electrical engineer, licensed by the State of Hawaii; or (2) Designed by an architect licensed by the State of Hawaii. (c1 Every habitable room shall contain at least two su lied electric convenience outlets or one convenience outlet and one supplied electric light Fixture. Every water closet compartment, bathroom, laundry room, furnace room, and public hallway shall contain at least one electrical light fixture." SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed material, and underscoring need not be included. SECTION 3. If any provision of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. -2- SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
