HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 1987-076 1984-1988COUNTY OF HAWAII M :STATE OF HAWAII ~, ._ r BI~~ N0. 374 ORDINANCE NO. 8'7 '76 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 7, DIVISION 1, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983, RELATING 7'O TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 7, division 1, of the Hawaii County Code 1983, is amended to read as follows: "Section 24-144. Markings specified. (a) Center, no passing, double, safety zone, pavement-width transition, parking space, and all lines running parallel to the pavement edye shall be at least four inches in width. Safety zones shall be designated by a line running parallel to the pavement edge and said line shall be at least eight inches in width. (b) Channelizing, turn symbol, stop, crosswalk, word and symbol, and all other lines running at right angles to the pavement edge shall be at least eight inches in width. (c) Curb markings shall cover the face and top of curbs. (d) All lines or markings shall be painted as follows: (1) Lines delineating the separation of traffic flows in opposing directions shall be yellow [or white. The traffic engineer of the County and the district engineer of the department of transportation, State of Hawaii, are authorized to convert all white lines delineating the separation of traffic flows in opposing directions to yellow linesj. (2) Lines delineating the separation of traffic flows in the same direction shall be white. [(3) Other lines and markings shall be white in color, except for the following which shall be yellow: (A) Pavement-width transitions. (B) Approaches to obstructions which must be passed on the right. (C) Curb markings to show parking prohibition and on islands in the line of traffic.] ( ) Curb markings designating that curbside stopping, standing, or parking are prohibited within a certain area shall be red or yellow in color. The traffic engineer of the County of Hawaii and the district engineer of the department of transportation, State of Hawaii, are authorized to convert all yellow curbs in parking prohibition zones to red curbs. ( J Curb markings designating loading zones shall be yellow in color. ( ) Other lines and markings shall be white in color except that medial islands, pavement-width transitions, and approaches to obstructions, where the markings are used to separate traffic flows in opposing direction, shall be yellow in color." -2- SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New material is underscored.' In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed material, and underscoring need not be included. SECTION 3. If any provision of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
