ORDINANCE NO. 91 103
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 10, OF THE HAWAII
COUNTY CODE 1983, RELATING TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Purpose: The purpose of this bill is to make

corrections in chapter 24, article 10 of the Hawaii County Code
by deleting two sections concerning speed limits on Kalanianaole
Street which conflict with another section of the schedule on
speed limits. With those two sections deleted, the code will
clearly state that Kalanianaole Street has a legal speed limit
of thirty-five (35) miles.per-hour for its entire length, as
stated in Hawaii County Code §24-257(14), Schedule 5.
SECTION 2. Chapter 24, article 10, section 24-258,
schedule 6 of the Hawaii County Code 1983, relating to 35 mile
per hour maximum speed limit, is amended to read as follows:
Section 24-258. Schedule 6. 35 mile per hour
maximum speed limit. A maximum speed limit of
thirty-five miles per hour is established as set forth
in this schedule upon the streets or portions of
streets as follows:
(1) Ainako Street.
(2) Haihai Street.
(3) Iwalani Street, between Kawailani and Puainako
Street.
(4) Kaiwiki Road
[(5) Kalanianaole Street, Kamehameha Avenue to Kuhio
Street.]
[(6)] Kaumana Drive.
[(7)] Kawailani Street, from mauka terminal to
Kinoole Street.
[(8)] (7) Kekuanaoa Street.
[(9)] (a) Kinoole Street, from Haihai to Ponahawai.
[(10)] (7) Komohana Street, from Ainaola to Puainako.
[(11)] (10) Lanikaula Street, from Kumukoa Street to
Kanoelehua Avenue.
[(12)] (11) Mohouli Street, from mauka terminal to
Kinoole Street.
[(13)] (12) Puainako Street, from mauka terminal to
Kinoole Street.
[(14)] (13) Waianuenue Avenue, from mauka terminal tc
Halai Street.
SECTION 3. Chapter 24, article 10, section 24-261
schedule 9, of the Hawaii County Code 1983, relating to 45 mile
per hour maximum speed limit, is amended to read as follows:
Section 24-261. Schedule 9. 45 mile per hour
maximum speed limit. A maximum speed limit of
forty-five miles per hour is established as set forth
in this schedule upon the streets or portions of
streets as follows:
[(1) Kalanianaole Street, from Kuhio Street easterly
to its terminal.]
[(2)] Komohana Street, from Puainako to Punahele.
SECTION 4. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New
material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the
brackets, bracketed material, and underscoring need not be
included.
SECTION 5. If any provision of this ordinance or the
application thereof to any person or circumstances is held
invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without

the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the
provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
