ORDINANCE NO. 93 89
AN ORDINANCE NAMING 'PHE PUNA PARK LOCATED AT LAEPAO'O, PUNA (THE
DELUZ PROPERTY).
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Findings and Purpose. The purpose of this
ordinance is *_o name the new park located at Laepao'o, Puna,
pursuant r_o Article 8 of Chapr,er 15 of the Hawaii County Code of
1983, which establishes guidelines for the naming of county parks
and recreational facilities. Article 8, Section 15-67(a)(2)(A) of
r_he Hawaii County Code provides that a park shall "be named for
its neighborhood, community, region, district or other identifying
geographical loca*.ion". The new park is located where the
ahupua'a of Laepao'o and Pu'ala'a meet. In the immediate vicinity
is the site of the ancient Hawaiian fishing village of Pu'ala'a.
As the village of Pu'ala'a was historically the nearest community,
ir_ is appropriate that the park which will be a gathering place
for the people of Puna be named after the village.
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary,
r,he new park at Laepao'o, Puna is hereby named Pu'ala'a Beach Park.
SECTION 3. In the event that any portion of this ordinance
is declared invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other
parts of this ordinance.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
