Comm. 4094: BENLATE CONTAMINATION
Copy of letter to Yukio Kitagawa, Chairperson, Board of
Agriculture, from Mayor Lorraine R. Inouye, dated
August 25, 1992, regarding Council Resolution
No. 476-92, adopted on July 15, 1992 (requests the
Mayor, in conjunction with the State Department of
Agriculture (DOA), the University of Hawaii College of
Tropical Agriculture and the County to investigate the
the Benlate contamination).
Informs that the Department of Research and Development
met with affected farmers, local representatives of the
DOA's Ag. Loan Division, Bank of Hawaii and others and,
as a result of the meeting, local farmers are now in
the process of organizing the data needed to determine
farmers' eligibility for state emergency loans.
Further informs, she has been in touch with the
Governor regarding the matter and is requesting State
assistance.
Requests information on any activities they may have
undertaken regarding the Benlate issue in the State and
any suggestions as to how the County might further help
those farmers affected by Benlate.
(Note: A similar letter was also sent by the Mayor to
Dr. Noel Kefford, Dean, CTAHR, UH-Manoa.)

(Res. 518) From PC Chair Takashi Domingo, dated September 3, 1992,
transmitting a resolution requesting the Mayor to
appoint an Advisory Commission on Landscaping for
consideration.
