Dear Councilmember, Whenever you drive to Pohiki harbor down from Pahoa I hope you enjoy the mango trees lining a most picturesque alley. Now it is a protected site even with street signs, but REMEMBER: IT WAS THE PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT TO PROTECT ALL THOSE SPECTACULAR MANGO TREES. The government wanted to cut those trees down. It was before my time here, so I cannot give any specifics. But just to remind you, what people do will be appreciated much later. This is not California, where lots of initiatives are voted into law every year. It is a place where this happened only within a time frame of 20 years successfully the first time. Crushing this even only by suspending it for 2 years is crushing the spirit of the people. Nobody can do this without serious repercussions either on yourself, your voters and the environment. It is a violent blow of disregard and disrespect. It is shortsighted as well. Please remember all the ways of balancing the budget which have been mentioned by so many testimonials. o `7) PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR BILL 49! RESPECT THE HARD WORK OF VOTERS AND VOLUNTEERS. - „ Mahalo, T'-n Co Gabriela Jaitt, phone: 965 9785 P.S. in the last weeks there was a poll in West Hawaii Today that showed that 80% of people saw Bill 49 as a bold defiance of public trust and worthy of recall initiative £omm t6o~} `73 I 121 Ref.
