Subject: SAVE THE 2% LAND FUND
Aloha,
I write once again to beg you DO NOT SUSPEND DEPOSITS TO THE 2% FUND for 2 years. A few
of you are willing to vote NO on Bi1149. To those I sincerely THANK YOU for listening to and
representing the people of Hawaii. You truly set an example to the others on the Council by "walking
the talk," to support all those who have worked so tirelessly right now and in 2006 to introduce the 2%
legislation to preserve our land for all of Hawaii's people and generations to come.
The Mayor has said that times are different now and the budget is a great concern and he believes given
the current situation, people would not feel the same as in 2006 when the 2% Land Fund was passed.
To this I say, I have heard more testimonies and seen more letters written to the Editor of WHT in recent
months in overwhelming support to preserve the 2% land fund only to emphasize that the people of
Hawaii DO NOT want the 2% Fund to be used to balance the budget. What more proof does the rest of
the Council members need? Do you not see and feel the passion of the people? Will you truly ignore
your legislative position and responsibility to uphold democracy?
VOTE NO on Bill 49: 2% Land Fund is a VOTER MANDATED FUND, Approved BY "WE
THE PEOPLE" AT THE POLLS IN 2006:
TAKE ACTION NOW to acquire properties for the Hawaiian people. The people of Hawaii voted
to preserve 2% for the Land Fund. Now it is your turn and responsibility to follow through for the
people and acquire properties actively listed for sale: Kaiholena and Pao'o (273 acres in Kohala),
Puapua'a (9 acres in Kona) and if the 2nd piece of Kawa Bay is for sale that was #1 on the Open Space
Commissions list.
DO WHAT IS PONO - DO WHAT IS RIGHT.
Mahalo,
