RESOLUTION N0. 29 9~
WHEREAS, the demise of sugaz and other industries on the Big Island has left many of
our citizens without work and with an uncertain future; and
WHEREAS, this decline makes it necessary for us to seek alternative and diversified
businesses to be established to satisfy their need for employment; and
WHEREAS, the youth of our Island also need opportunities to ensure a prosperous
future; and
WHEREAS, the development and survival of small businesses create a more stable and
thriving economy than one based on a few large employers; and
WHEREAS, the Big Island Business Council, an association of twelve business
organizations, has established a list of legislative priorities for the State of Hawaii Eighteenth
Legislative Session; and
WHEREAS, these priorities address the desire for legislation that would be favorable to
the establishment and survival of small businesses; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council agrees with the general scope of these priorities,
while recognizing that individual Council Members may not agree with specific priority items.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the State of Hawaii Eighteenth Legislature adopts these priorities
and enacts legislation as set forth therein.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of
this Resolution to the Members of the State of Hawaii Eighteenth Legislature and the President
of the Big Island Business Council.
