RESOLUTION N0. 82 95
A RESOLUTION URGING KING KONA PRODUCTIONS, INC., PRODUCERS OF THE
MOVIE "WATERWORLD" TO HOLD THE PREMIER SHOWING OF THE FILM ON THE
BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, King Kona Productions, Inc., has spent the last
thirteen months on the West Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii
filming the movie WATERWORLD; and
WHEREAS, over 1000 people from the Big Island were employed and
over 35 million dollars was brought into the Big Island as a result
of the filming of WATERWORLD here; and
WHEREAS, having hosted the actors and crew of the WATERWORLD
production, and having been home to the set of the movie in the
Kawaihae Harbor for the past year, the Big Island Community has a
special interest in the film and its success on the big screen; and
WHEREAS, holding the premier showing of the movie WATERWORLD
here on the Biq Island would provide the producers and all those
involved in the making of the film a chance to highlight and promote
it on the very island in which it was created; and
WHEREAS, the Big Island Community would be honored to host such
a special event here and would be more than willing to help in
finding a suitable location and giving any other assistance as
needed to make sure that the premier of this film is of the highest
caliber.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, that it urges King Kona Productions, Inc., to hold the
premier showing of the film WATERWORLD here on the Big Island of
Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Stephen K.
Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of Hawaii, Ms. Diane Quitiquit,
Director of the Department of Research and Development, and
Mr. Chuck Gordon, Producer of the movie WATERWORLD.
