COUNTY OF HAWAII' STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION N0. 2S7 9.4
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 19, of the Hawaii County
Code provides that the County Council may, by resolution,
approved by the majority of its members, dispose of real
property; and
WHEREAS, the 4 cottages at the Kapiolani Homeless
Shelters are termite infested and deteriorated due to
weathering and age; and
WHEREAS, the maintenance cost is exorbitant in trying to
maintain the structure for the homeless; and
WHEREAS, Office of Housing and Community Development
(OHCD) is requesting permission to demolish the cottages to
construct 2 duplex units; and
WHEREAS, OHCD is required to obtain all necessary
permits and insurance before any work can commence; and
WHEREAS, OHCD is providing $500,000.00 of community
development block grant funds for the construction of units
to be utilized as emergency shelters for the homeless.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED HY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that:
1. In accordance with the provisions of Chapter 2,
Article 19 of the Hawaii County Code, the Director of
Finance be authorized to dispose of the cottages located at
115 Kapiolani Street, Hilo, Hawaii, TMK: 2-3-12-004, by
demolition.
2. The Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall transmit
copies of this resolution to the Office of Housing and
Community Development and the Director of Finance.
