RESOLUTION N0. 143 9S
RESOLUTION ASKING FOR THE TRANSFER OF LAND IN KAHEI, NORTH KOHALA,
FROM THE STATE OF HAWAII TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, FOR A COUNTY PARK.
WHEREAS, the residents of Kahei, North Kohala have made a request that the State of
Hawaii set aside approximately I S acres of land in North Kohala, described as Tax Map Key:
3rd/5-5-03: 19(por.) and 25(por.)., to the County of Hawaii, for the development of a County
park and playing fields; and
WHEREAS, the Community organization pressing for this action has already organized
in an effort to help the County of Hawaii improve and maintain this park facility, and have
already proven themselves adept at this type of effort through their success with Veterans field at
Kamehameha Park; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for additional park facilities in the azea, especially playing
fields for youth sports; and
WHEREAS, preliminary contact with the DLNR has found that they are amenable to
such a land transfer; and
WHEREAS, in order for this land transfer to take place, the Governor of the State of
Hawaii, after receiving a positive recommendation from the Board of the Department of Land
and Natural Resources, must issue an Executive Order authorizing such action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, it asks the Board of the Department of Land and Natural Resources to recommend to
the Honorable Benjamin Cayetano, Governor of the State of Hawaii, to issue an Executive Order
transferring the Land held by the DLNR at TMK: 3rd/5-5-03: 19(por.) and 25(por.)., to the
County of Hawaii for the establishment of a County park; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the County of Hawaii asks the
Honorable Benjamin Cayetano, Governor of the State of Hawaii, to accept said recommendation
and issue the Executive Order transferring the appropriate land, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of
this Resolution to the Honorable Governor Benjamin Cayetano, Governor of the State of Hawaii,
Mr. Michael Wilson, Chairperson of the Board of the Department of Land and Natural
Resources, the Honorable Stephen K. Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of Hawaii, and Mr.
George Yoshida, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, County of Hawaii.
