RESOLUTION N0. 1S8 9S
WHEREAS, World War II changed the outlook of Hawaii forever by impacting the
lifestyles of Hawaii's residents; and
WHEREAS, in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of World Waz II as part
of the national observance of World War II anniversary events, the State of Hawaii is proud to
honor the World War II veterans in a local celebration appropriately named " A Grateful
Hawaii Remembers"; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii's commemoration will be a time for solemn remembrance and
recognition--remembrance of the many who proudly served the cause of freedom and the
recognition of the benefits of peace reaped from new beginnings since the end of the war; and
WHEREAS, this commemoration will be a time when many individuals will return to
our beautiful islands to reminisce, rejoice, and mourn their lost comrades in arms at Punchbowl
and Pearl Hazbor. For others it will be a time to recapture the friendships that were established
during their time in Hawaii in WWII. But for all, it will be a time to remember an experience
that hopefully will never befall future generations; and
WHEREAS, this commemoration will be a time to reflect and honor our valiant veterans
who have sacrificed their lives, time, and dignity for our nation, our state, and our communities
to terminate World War II in the Pacific. This will also be a time to instill an awareness of
peace and prosperity brought about by new beginnings since the end of the conflict; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii County's celebration of "A Grateful Nation Remembers" will be
held September 23-30, 1995, and will be sponsored by the County of Hawaii Department of
