COUNTY OF HAWAII_ STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION N0. ~~ ~
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT COOPERATE
WITH THE ROYAL HAWAIIAN ESTATES ASSOCIATION IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF
BUS SHELTERS.
WHEREAS, there are approximately 150 students of Mt. View
Elementary, Keaau Elementary and Intermediate and Waiakea
Intermediate Schools who utilize school bus service in the Royal
Hawaiian Estates Subdivision; and
WHEREAS, these students are continuously subjected to
unpredictable and sometimes harsh weather conditions, such as rain
and wind; and
WHEREAS, because of this, the Royal Hawaiian Estates
Association has proposed a plan to construct four bus shelters in
the Royal Hawaiian Estates Subdivision; and
WHEREAS, the proposed bus shelters will consist of a 4x8
wooden structure with metal roofing, and will be situated on the
shoulders of both Alii Anela and Alii Kane Streets; and
WHEREAS, in order to position the shelters on the streets
listed above, permission must be granted by the Public works
Department; and
WHEREAS, the Royal Hawaiian Estates Association will supply
the manpower and funds necessary to complete this project; and
WHEREAS, this proposal has received support from the
Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, once ..ompleted, these structu: s will not only
provide much-needed shelter, but will also be utilized on a
continuous basis by the surrounding community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it requests the Public Works Department to grant
approval of this proposal and assist the Royal Hawaiian Estates
Association in the completion of this project.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to The Honorable
Mayor Stephen Yamashiro, Chief Engineer Donna Kiyosaki of the
Public Works Department and Steve Minion, President of the Royal
Hawaiian Estates Association.
