WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii encourages economic development on the Big Island of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council passed Bill No. 167 enabling the designation of enterprise zones in Hawaii County; and WHEREAS, Bill No. 167 was enacted into Ordinance 94-8 by Mayor Stephen Yamashiro; and WHEREAS, Ordinance 94-8 will be conducive to economic development efforts to generate employment; and WHEREAS, the unemployment rate on the Big Island is in excess of ten percent; and WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is empowered to make enterprise zone designations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that the following enterprise zones be established in Hawaii County according to the delineations submitted with this resolution (EXHIBIT "A"), and maps attached hereto (EXHIBIT "B-1" and EXHIBIT "B-2"): (1) Kona Enterprise Zone II (2) Hilo-Puna Enterprise Zone (amendment) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Hawaii, to the Mayor of the County of Hawaii, and to the Director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
