RESOLUTION N0. ^ 77 ~5
WHEREAS, waste reduction, recycling, reusing and
composting are viable means of diverting a share of the 400
tons of trash deposited daily in Biq Island landfills, and
Month; and
WHEREAS, February 1996 is the National Recycle
WHEREAS, the Honorable Mayor Stephen Yamashiro
has proclaimed February as "Recycle Awareness Month," and
WHEREAS, there will be a statewide and Biq Island
Recycling Contest for students starting in February; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii County educational recycling
projects include: presentations of "From the Mountain to the
Sea" at Waiakea Elementary School, opening of the Hawaii Food
industry Association-sponsored "Little Glass Shack" glass
collection centers, "Recycle Day" and "Used Motor Oil
Collection Day" in Hilo, Waimea and Kona,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED HY THE COUNCIL OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it recognizes the importance of
waste prevention, reduction and recycling education, and the
contribution of Recycle Hawaii and the industries involved in
recycling operations on the island of Hawaii during the
celebration of February 1996 as Recycle Awareness Month.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the
County of Hawaii is instructed to transmit copies of this
resolution to Recycle Hawai'i's representative, along with the
Council's best wishes for success and recognition deserving of
their worthy contributions.
