RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Transition Network, Inc. will be sponsoring a conference on domestic violence and
community involvement at the New Hope Church in Hilo, Hawaii on May 24, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the event is being promoted statewide and also through the Internet which may result
in greater local and national exposure; and
WHEREAS, Denise Brown, sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson, will be the featured speaker
together with Alana Bowman and Gail Pincus (leading experts in the field); and
WHEREAS, although a $20 conference fee will be charged per attendee, a speaker fee of $6,000 is
needed to pay Denise Brown (Ms. Bowman and Ms. Pincus have waived their speaker fees).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it will allocate $3,000 of its Miscellaneous Contract Services account funds to Transition Network,
Inc. to assist with the partial payment of speaker fees for its Conference on Domestic Violence and
Community Involvement to be held in Hilo on May 24, 1996, and that Transition Network allow County
staff to attend the conference in exchange for the advancement of fees.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this
Resolution to the Honorable Stephen Yamashiro, Mayor; Harry Takahashi, Finance Director; Jay Kimura,
Prosecuting Attorney; and Bobbi Leone, Executive Director of Transition Network Inc.
