RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Hilo High School Girls Basketball Team was the undefeated champions of the
Big Island Interscholastic Federation and the Honokaa High School Girls Basketball Team was the
runner-up; and
WHEREAS, this lofty accomplishment qualified the teams for the State Girls Basketball
Tournament; and
WHEREAS, because of a scheduling mishap, the State Tournament, which was supposed to be
held in Hilo, was rescheduled for Oahu, leaving our Big Island teams without funds for the trip; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds a public purpose in assisting these teams in funding this trip to
Oahu as the unexpected expenses will cause hazdship to the schools and families of the team members.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that $3,000 be and is hereby transferred/appropriated out and from Clerk Council SVC OCE
Miscellaneous Contract Services Account No. 010-101-5101.02-115 and credited to P & R
Administration OCE Miscellaneous Contract Services Account No. 010-503-5503.02-115 ($1,500 to Hilo
High School and $1,500 to Honokaa High School) to help cover the cost to send the Girls Basketball
Teams to Oahu for the State Tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this
resolution to Mr. George Yoshida, Director of Pazks and Recreation, Ms. Donna Saiki, Principal of Hilo
High School; Mr. Gordon Kainoa, Principal of Honokaa High School; Mr. Walter Ah Hee, Head Coach
of Hilo High School Girls Basketball Team; and Ms. Daphne Honma, Head Coach of Honokaa High
School Girls Basketball Team.
