RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Ha'aheo School is on a modified school schedule; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii has agreed to develop/update a plan
for a protected walkway on one side of Wainaku Street; and
WHEREAS, by placing a school crossing guard at the Wainaku
Street/Ha'aheo Road intersection, the safe crossing of children and
pedestrians at this intersection would be assured; and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter
states that the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...for which
appropriations have been made by the council..."; and
WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the salaries and wages
account of the Police Department to cover the cost of the additional
School Crossing Guard;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that one (1) School Crossing Guard position be created to be
assigned to Ha'aheo School.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
transmitted to the Departments of Police, Finance and Civil Service.
