RESOLUTION
APPROVING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ASISTER-CITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY
OF HAWAI-CHO AND THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the Council of Hawaii County have jointly promoted aSister-City
program to foster friendship and understanding among all of the world, particularly those in the Pacific
Basin; and
WHEREAS, such aSister-City program would benefit the people of the affiliated cities through
the exchange of cultural exhibits, educational programs, information relative to economic development of
mutual interest, and other matters of common interest; and
WHEREAS, contacts have been made between officials of the government of the City of
Hawai-Cho, Tottori prefecture, Japan and the County of Hawaii to discuss the establishment of a Sister-
City relationship between the City of Hawai-Cho and the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii and the City of Hawai-Cho are similarly blessed with natural
beauty and industries that include agriculture, fishing and tourism; and
WHEREAS, during the correspondence between the representatives of the cities, the
Hawai-Cho officials expressed enthusiastic support of aSister-City relationship between Hawai-Cho and
the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii, Island of Hawaii, would be pleased and honored to be
affiliated with the City of Hawai-Cho as a Sister-City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that aSister-City program be established between the County of Hawaii and the good people of
the City of Hawai-Cho; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Hawai-Cho be and is hereby requested to take
whatever action that may be deemed necessary to effect this relationship.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk transmit copies of this resolution to Mayor
Stephen K. Yamashiro, the Mayor of the City of Hawai-Cho and to Rudy Legaspi, Protocol Officer.
