RESOLUTION N0. 4 Q 1 9 6
RESOLUTION URGING THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND
RECREATION TO LEASE 22.471 ACRES OF LAND FROM WAIKOLOA DEVELOPMENT
COMPANY FOR USE AS A PARK SITE.
WHEREAS, Waikoloa Development Company currently owns 22.471 acres of land,
adjacent to the Waikoloa Elementary School, identified by Tax Map Key 6-8-02:44; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii intends to subdivide this property into two parcels,
17.971 acres which will revert to Waikoloa Development Company for dedication to the State of
Hawaii to be used for the expansion of Waikoloa School and 4.5 acres which will be dedicated to
the County of Hawaii to be used as a community pazk site; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii has no immediate plans to expand Waikoloa School; and
WHEREAS, the Waikoloa Village community is in need of a pazk site for recreation; and
WHEREAS, the lease of the 22.471 acres of land from Waikoloa Development Company
will initiate the development of the pazk site and the eventual subdivision of the pazcel and
dedication of the land to the County of Hawaii and the State of Hawaii.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that the Director of the Department of Pazks and Recreation is urged to lease 22.471
acres of land from Waikoloa Development Company for use as a pazk site.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that when the State Department of Education requires the
land slated for expansion of Waikoloa School, the County of Hawaii will initiate subdivision of
the property.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that subdivision and dedication of the 4.5 acre pazk site
to the County of Hawaii will fulfill any park and play field requirements for the adjoining Lot 4,
File Plan 2038 which is presently owned by Waikoloa Development Company.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Hawaii will be responsible for
providing any road and utility extensions necessary to serve the pazk site.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk is hereby directed to forwazd
copies of this resolution to the Honorable Stephen K. Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of
Hawaii, the Director of the Department of Pazks and Recreation, the State Department of
Education, and the Waikoloa Development Company.
