HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 421 Draft 01 1994-1996COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION N0. ~2~ ~6 A RESOLUTION FOR FUNDING TO HELP DEFRAY THE COST TO BUILD DUGOUTS AT THE WAIAKEA HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL FIELDS AND PAINT THE BACKSTOP AT THE BASEBALL FIELD. WHEREAS, the Waiakea High School softball fields do not have dugouts; and WHEREAS, during practice and competition, the teams do not have any protection from the elements; and WHEREAS, the parents and boosters are forced to bring and setup tents to protect the players on each occasion of a game; and WHEREAS, the Waiakea High School baseball field's backstop is in dire need of repainting to protect and preserve it; and WHEREAS, because of the State's budgetary cutbacks, the Waiakea High School Athletic Department does not have the funds to build the dugouts or paint the backstop; and WHEREAS, the Waiakea Athletic Booster Club has raised half of the $9,000 ($3,000 for the backstop and $6,000 for the dugouts) needed to fund these projects; and WHEREAS, the Council believes it is in the public interest to match the funds raised by the Waiakea Athletic Booster Club so that these projects can be completed; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 396-96, adopted by the County Council on October 16, 1996, has been deemed invalid by Corporation Counsel Opinion No. 23731, thus this resolution is submitted as a replacement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that $4,500 from Council District IV discretionary funds be and is hereby transferred/appropriated out and from Pazks and Recreation Pazks R&M Improvements Account No. 010-505-5505.51-115; credited to Clerk-Council SVC OCE Miscellaneous Contract Services Account No. 010-101-5101.02-115; and paid to the Waiakea High School Athletic Department to help defray the cost of building dugouts on the softball fields and painting the backstop on the baseball field. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to Mr. George Yoshida, Director of the Department of Pazks and Recreation; Mr. Harry Takahashi, Director of the Department of Finance; Mr. Ken Yamase, Waiakea High School Athletic Director; and Mr. Charles Tamashiro, President of the Waiakea Athletic Booster Club.
