Hawaii honors the profound influence of Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. on the nation's understanding of human rights, social
justice, and racial harmony; and
WHEREAS, it is because of the efforts of Dr. King and
those who have dedicated their lives to similar principles that
we are able to improve our democratic society; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is honored
to join in commemorating the birthdate of this great American; and
WHEREAS, this year's observance is dedicated to the
memory of Earnest Morgan, whose commitment to the ideals of
Dr. King stands as an inspiration to those he touched; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its tribute to the memory of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and calls upon the people of the
County of Hawaii to reflect upon the progress our nation has made
as a result of Dr. King's work.
HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit copies of this Resolution to the Honorable John
Waihee, Governor of the State of Hawaii; Mrs. Loretta Scott King;
the Honorable Stephen K. Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of
Hawaii; the Reverend Stanley E. Amos, Chairperson of the State of
Hawaii Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission; and to Mr. Andcew
Oliver, Coordinator of the Hawaii County Martin Luther King Jr.
