HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 030 Draft 01 1992-1994COUNTY OF HAWAtt STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION N0. ~~ :~ WHEREAS, the visitor industry nn the Big Island of Hawaii currently generates approximately 1.2 million visitors a year with estimated expenditures of $~50 million; and WHEREAS, the fact that twelve of the top twenty employers within the County of Hawaii are from the tourism industry attests to its significance to the Big Island's economy; and WHEREAS, today the visitor industry is not confined to traditional visitor accommodations, transient accommodations include hotels, apartments, condominiums, cottages and bed and breakfast operations; and WHEREAS, the foreign visitor has also opened new dimensions for Hawaii's promotional considerations; and WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii finds that the diversification of the visitor industry brings a new focus to visitor promotions mandating a comprehensive approach to enable the Big Island to compete with other visitor destinations. Now, THERF,FORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it requests the Administration to establish a tourism coordination program to be headed by a tourism czar for the purpose of developing a comprehensive promotional package utilizing the resources of both the public and private sectors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that incentives be included as part of the program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Stephen K. Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; Ms. Diane Quitiquit, Director of Research and Development, County of Hawaii; Ms. Noelani Whittington, Executive Director, Kohala Coast Resort Association; Ms. Vonnie Lyons, Managing Director, Keauhou Resort Association; Mr. Lionel Kutner, President, Destination Kona Coast; Mr. Buddy Soares, President, Destination Hilo; Ms. Julie Hugo, President, Big Island Group; and f"r.
