RESOLUTION N0. ~ 93
WHEREAS, Mauna Lani Resort has greatly contributed to the
success of the development of resorts on the Kohala Coast and
continues to provide opportunities and new interests into the
economy of West Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, their efforts in the preservation of cultural and
historical treasures, as well as their improvement of our island's
natural beauty and landscaping, assures their lasting commitment
to this coast; and
WHEREAS, Mauna Lani is presently requesting that the Board of
Land and Natural Resources consider granting an easement, or lease
certain submerged lands at South Kohala, Hawaii to Mauna Lani
Resort, Inc. for development of a Cove; and
WHEREAS, Mauna Lani's proposed Cove could indeed enhance their
unique resort location and complement the Kohala Coast Resort area
economically, educationally, and culturally.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that the members are in support of Mauna Lani Resort's
request for an easement and/or lease of certain submerged lands
for the purpose of development, use and maintenance of an access
channel at Kalahuipua'a, South Kohala, Hawaii, and encourages the
Honorable Governor John Waihee to approve such request.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent
to the Honorable Governor John Waihee, the Honorable Mayor Stephen
K. Yamashiro, Keith Ahue, Department of Land and Natural Resources
and Francine Duncan, Mauna Lani Resort, Inc.

Re: A Resolution in Support of Mauna Lani Resort's Request For
an Easement and/or Lease of Certain Submerged Lands
Pursuant to Section 1(d) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of
the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is
submitted in regards to Resolution No. 58 , relating to Mauna
Lani Resort's request for an easement and or lease of certain
submerged lands for development, use and maintenance of an
access channel at Kalahuipua'a, South Kohala, waiving said
referral from the Committee on Planning in order that
appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed
advisable that such waiver be granted.
