A RESOLUTION TO TEMPORARILY KEEP NANIAKEA STREET AS A NO THROUGH STREET UNTIL PUAINAKO STREET IMPROVEMENT IS COMPLETED. WHEREAS, the members of the Muni Links Community Association are concerned with the removal of the barricade to make Naniakea Street a through street; and WHEREAS, Puainako Street is a feeder street for Waiakea Elementary School, Waiakea Intermediate School, Waiakea High School, and the University of Hawaii at Hilo; and WHEREAS, the Community Association feels that there will be undue hardship on the residents of the Naniakea Subdivision due to the increase in traffic on Naniakea Street because of school congestion; and WHEREAS, the Community Association believes that crosswalk and traffic signal is necessary at the intersection of Naniakea Street and Puainako Street to have a continuous flow of traffic; and WHEREAS, the traffic alignment on Naniakea Street between Kawailani Street and Puainako Street should be addressed; and WHEREAS, additional lighting on Naniakea Street is necessary for night traffic; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Naniakea Street from Kawailani Street to Puainako Street should not he a through street until the Puainako Street improvement is completed; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that clearly marked crosswalks and traffic lights be installed at the Naniakea Street and Puainako Street intersection; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that proper alignment be made on Naniakea Street between Kawailani Street and Puainako Street as well as better lighting be provided for Naniakea Street; and BE FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Stephen K.
