RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the National Park Service
commercial-tour use of airspace fee for air
over the Haleakala National Park; and
WHEREAS, the National Park Service
commercial tour fees at three of Hawaii's N
Haleakala, Hawaii Volcanoes, and Puuhonua O
and '
has initiated a new
tour operators who fly
has also initiated new
~tional Parks --
Honaunau Historic Park;
WHEREAS, these additional fees will inevitably be passed on
to the visitor in the form of increased rates and fares; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is concerned
that these fees will only hamper an already sluggish visitor industry;
and
WHEREAS, the initial purpose of the National Parks is to
preserve the natural habitat and to open the parks for everyone to
enjoy and not reserve them for the privileged few who have the
ability to pay the entrance fee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby urges reconsideration and abatement of these
new commercial fees at our National Parks.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii send copies of this resolution to the National Park Service,
Western Regional office; the National Park Service, Pacific office;
and to each member of the Hawaii's Congressional delegation.
