HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 162 Draft 01 1992-1994K /} t ~ ~ • C~'^" \,lJi ~~->a_-- s RESOLUTION NO. ~ THE HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL EXPRESSES SYMPATHY AND TO THE FAMILY OF ROBERT ROGERS WHEREAS, Robert Rogers, fondly known as "Uncle Bob" passed away on January 11, 1994 at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Robert "Uncle Bob" Rogers, a retired teacher, with his devoted wife and companion "Auntie Carol Rogers", founded the Kona Arts Center in Holualoa, Kona, and pioneered art in the Kona Community; and WHEREAS, the name of "Uncle Bob" became synonymous with the Kona Arts Center where he unselfishly gave of his time and talents to thousands of our residents and visitors through art for a span of 27 years; and WHEREAS, "Uncle Bob" was a leader in guiding the gentle conversion of Holualoa Village into a safe harbor for artists and art merchants alike and led to its national recognition as a special kind of artist community tucked into the midst of Kona Coffee country; and WHEREAS, as a member of the Lions Club of Kona for twenty three years, he shared his talent in the field of arts and craft, serving as a judge of their Annual Sight is Beautiful Poster Contest since its inception fourteen years ago, and, from which organization he and Auntie Carol were recipients of the State-wide Humanitarian Award; and WHEREAS, "Uncle Bob" Rogers has left the people of Holualoa, people of West Hawaii and thousands of our visitors a legacy of love of person and of art to the extent that his work and his memory will continue to be an inspiration to all ages for many years to come; and WHEREAS, his work for the community and for the arts earned him many additional well deserved honors from government, heads of state, famous individuals and national magazines. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that it takes this opportunity to acknowledge their sincerest mahalo and appreciation for the many contributions bestowed upon the residents of Kona and the Big Island by Robert "Uncle Bob" Rogers and extends its deepest sympathy and condolence to "Auntie" Carol Rogers and family.
