RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Property Insurance Association was
originally created by Act 284 in 1991 to provide property
insurance for property owners within lava zones 1 & 2 on the
island of Hawaii who were being denied such policies or were
being cancelled by their insurance companies; and
WHEREAS, in order to preclude further discrimination of this
nature against property owners, should there be another
disaster, the Hawaii Revised Statutes needs to be amended
preventing the Insurance Commissioner from designating a
geographical area from being ineligible for coverage; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 3681 have been introduced before the
Seventeenth Legislature of the State of Hawaii to amend the
Hawaii Revised Statues for this purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby supports the purpose of House Bill 3681
relating to property Insurance and urges the Hawaii State
Legislature to enact legislation which will permit all property
owners within the State to obtain full homeowners insurance
coverage.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmits copies of this resolution to the Honorable
Norman Mizuguchi, President of the Hawaii State Senate and to
the Honorable Joseph M. Souki, Speaker of the Hawaii State House
of Representatives.
