RESOLUTION N0. 1?S 94
WHEREAS, Bill 1626 proposes to establish an artifacts
registry at the University of Hawaii at Hilo to collect and
record information on artifacts of significance to the people
and cultures of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the object of the registry is to initially
create a data pool of Hawaiian artifacts from which researchers
can compare with similar implements found throughout the
Pacific; and
WHEREAS, such a program is necessary to better manage our
cultural artifacts and to expand our cultural awareness; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, Senate Bill 1626, S.D. 2, passed three
readings in the Senate and was referred to the House for
consideration; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1626, S.D. 2, was further amended in
the House, passed on second reading as Senate Bill 1626 S.D. 2,
H.D. 1, and then referred to the House Committee on Finance;
and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii further
understands that State funding is not required for Senate Bill
1626, S.D. 2, H.D. 1.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it urges favorable consideration of
Senate Bill 1626, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, by the House Committee on
Finance so that this worthy project can be implemented.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii send copies of this resolution to Governor John D.
Waihee III; Honorable Calvin K. Y. Say, Chairman of the House
Committee on Finance, and to Dr. Kenneth C. Perrin, Chancellor,
University of Hawaii at Hilo.
