RESOLUTION NO. 192 94
WHEREAS, John Francis "K. C. Robbins passed away on
February 18, 1994; and
WHEREAS, "K. C." Robbins was born John Francis Robbins in
Kansas City, Missouri on June 17, 1951; and
WHEREAS, after completing his education at the University of
Minnesota and at the University of California at Berkeley followed
by a number of years working in related fields of communications
with organizations such as the United Press International, the
Thomas Group, the Journal American, the Book Publishing Company,
and the Chinook Observer, "K. C." Robbins came to Hawaii in 1989;
and
WHEREAS, as a resident of Hawaii, "K. C." worked for West
Hawaii Today, with Lalamilo Ventures, Ltd., T. I. W. Fabrication
Systems, Inc., and with Peavian Logic, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, "K. C." Robbins is the journalist/editor/creator of
the weekly fax newspaper, the "Hawaiian Observer"; and
WHEREAS, "K. C." authored a comprehensive redevelopment paper,
"1992 Hamakua Ag Plan", which detailed needed diversification
efforts, agricultural worker retraining, and the interim steps
necessary to revitalize the economy of the Hamakua district; and
WHEREAS, "K. C." is remembered for his practice of offering
alternative solutions to our island's problems. He stated in
January 1994, "This is not a time for shallow, short-term
efforts. It is a time for well thought-out, long term solutions
which accept and make the best of the realities of an isolated
island existence." His accomplishments are best remembered
through his prolific informational and educational writings.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it hereby extends its heartfelt condolences to the
family of the late John Francis "K. C." Robbins.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to Ms. Cynthia Robbins Myers
and Ms. Marilynn Slavick.
