RESOLUTION N0. ?.[)0 ~
WHEREAS, beaches being covered seven days a week by Water Safety
Officers in East Hawaii are Honolii, Richardson, and Onekahakaha,
and weekend coverage only at Carlsmith and Leleiwi; and
WHEREAS, the necessity for a seven-day coverage for Pu'ala'a
Beach Park is evident by the number of beachgoers at that popular
beach park; and
WHEREAS, it is essential for Onekahakaha, Honolii, and Pu'ala'a
to have double coverage on weekends when the workload is increased;
and
WHEREAS, the lifeguard stand at Leleiwi will be relocated so
that Leleiwi and Richardson will be in visual proximity of each
other in the event support services are needed; and
WHEREAS, without increasing the number of Water Safety Officer
positions, it is necessary to increase the time elements of some of
the Water Safety Officer II positions; and
WHEREP:;, by increasing the time elements of two (2) Water Safety
Officer II positions, Position Nos. 2860 and 3233 from 3/lOT to
3/4T, and three (3) positions, Position Nos. 2865, 2867, and 2869
from 3/lOT to 9/20T, the heavy volume beaches will have seven-day
coverage and double coverage on weekends; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the Contingency Account.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that Position Nos. 2860 and 3233, Water Safety Officer II
3/lOT, SR-17, be changed to Water Safety Officer II 3/4T, SR-17, and
that Position Nos. 2865, 2867, and 2869, Water Safety Officer II
3/lOT, SR-17, be changed to Water Safety Officer II 9/20T, SR-17.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT $5,700 be transferred from the
Contingency Account into the Regular Salaries and Wages account of
the Department of Parks & Recreation, Aquatics Division.
BE ZT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
transmitted to the Departments of Parks & Recreation, Finance and
Civil Service.
