RESOLUTION N0. 223 94
WHEREAS, Richard T. Ishida, a humanitarian, an attorney and a
lifetime resident of Kealakekua Village, South Kona, passed away
on Saturday, April 16, 1994 at the age of 59; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ishida, widely respected for his great integrity
and ability to help others in need, rose to become a great
community leader among the people of Kona and throughout the
island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ishida was admired for his dedication,
generousity, unselfishness and leadership to community service
through innumerable groups, projects and events; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ishida was an instrumental and key member of the
Kona Family YMCA, the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, the Onizuka
Memorial, the Bank Kumiai, the Central Kona Union Church, the
Rotary Club of Kona, and the Kona Hospital Foundation; and
WHEREAS, without Mr. Ishida's unconditional, generous support
for youth activities in Kona through the YMCA programs and
facilities, the Kona Family YMCA would not have survived in that
community and many highly valued youth programs would have been
lost; and
WHEREAS, beyond his personal and family accomplishments,
Richard T. Ishida will be long remembered by the people of Hawaii
County as a man with a great, loving heart and a ready smile who
couldn't hide a child-like joy in being with others, whether at
work, play or in worship; and
WHEREAS, while Richard T. Ishida will be greatly missed, his
name and his work will live on through his many accomplishments
and contributions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its condolences and deepest sympathy to the
surviving family of Mr. Richard T. Ishida: his wife Alice,
daughter Dale (Brian) Suezaki, sons Galen and Ross, parents
William and Masae Ishida, brother Lincoln (Ruth) Ishida, and
mother-in-law Kiyome Sugimoto.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a true copy of this resolution to the immediate family of
Mr. Ishida.
