RESOLUTION N0. X35 34
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RELEASE OF STATE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT
OF $169,000 FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LIGHTING SYSTEM AT DR. FRANCIS
WONG STADIUM IN HILO, HAWAII.
WHEREAS, the Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii has been
experiencing problems with its lighting system in the past, which
has resulted in the cancellation and postponement of sporting
events and activities; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature recently passed the
Supplemental Appropriations Act of 1994, appropriating $169,000
for lighting improvements at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii;
and
WHEREAS, the improvements will directly benefit youth and high
school sports leagues and tournaments and professional baseball as
well as statewide, national and international events; and
WHEREAS, improvements to the stadium will also indirectly
benefit Hilo merchants and businesses as increased use of the
stadium will mean an increase in the visitor population to the
area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, that it supports the release of these state funds by
Governor John Waihee in the amount of $169,000 for improvements to
the Lighting System at Dr. Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Coun y
transmit copies of this Resolution to the Honorable John Waihee,
Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Honorable Stephen K.
Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of Hawaii and Mr. George Yoshida,
Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
