HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 264 Draft 01 1992-1994COUNTY OF HAWAII` STATE OF HA~IUAII RESOLUTION N0. 264 ~4 WHEREAS, there is a traffic hazard at the Hilo Union School driveway on Kapiolani Street whenever school is in session; and WHEREAS, the traffic in this hazardous area is currently being controlled by the Hilo Union School junior police officers (JPO); and WHEREAS, some people get irritated because the traffic does not move smoothly; and WHEREAS, the area surrounding Hilo Union School is public property; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes 52-18, the chief of police of each county shall have charge, direction, and control of all matters relating to preserving and protecting the public health, safety, and welfare on and about the streets surrounding any school premises; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor has the power to "create positions...for which appropriations have been made by the council..."; and WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the salaries and wages account of the Police Department to cover the cost of the additional School Crossing Guard. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that a School Crossing Guard position be created for Hilo Union School. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Police Department; the Finance Department; the Civil Service Department; Jayne Fujioka, Principal of Hilo Union School and to Stephanie Rockstroh of Hilo Union School.
