RESOLUTION N0. z'~ ~4'
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO
ENTER INTO A COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE.
WHEREAS, on August 12, 1994, the County of Hawaii sustained
considerable flood damages requiring cleanup and restoration
work along the Waiakea and Alenaio flood channels; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture,
through the Soil Conservation Service, is willing to provide the
County with financial assistance for debris removal and
restoration work at seven sites along the above mentioned flood
channels; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii desires to enter into a
Cooperative Agreement with the United States Soil Conservation
Service for federal assistance; and
WHEREAS, said agreement will provide financial assistance on
the basis that seventy-five percent of the cost will be provided
by the federal government and twenty-five percent will be
locally matched; and
WHEREAS, Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, provided for
various County agencies to be able to enter into agreements with
the federal government with the consent of the County Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it authorizes the Mayor of the County of Hawaii
to execute a Cooperative Agreement with the U. S. Soil
Conservation Service for cleanup and restoration work as
delineated.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable
Stephen K. Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of Hawaii, and to the
State Conservationist, U. S. Department of Agriculture, Soil
Conservation Service.
