RESOLUTION N0. :325 94
WHEREAS, the State Legislature of the State of Hawaii,
in the passage of Act 289, Session Laws of Hawaii 1993, as
amended by Act 252, Session Laws of Hawaii 1994, did
appropriate and authorize the sum of $400,000 to be expended by
the County of Hawaii for the Mamo Theater, Hawaii project; and
WHEREAS, the sum of $400,000 is appropriated for design,
equipment, and construction for the renovation of the Mamo
Theater; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii will accept these funds
and has agreed to contract the Hilo Community Players, a
non-profit corporation, to coordinate the renovation of the
Mamo Theater; and
WHEREAS, the intent of the renovation of the Mamo
Theater is to provide a facility for the enhancement of
cultural opportunities and experiences through theater and
other performing arts; and
WHEREAS, the County Council understands that the Hilo
Community Players will provide supplemental funding for the
renovation of the Mamo Theater; and
WHEREAS, the County Council fully supports the
renovation of the Mamo Theater.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the County Council approves and
concurs with a request by the Mayor of the County of Hawaii to
the Governor of the State of Hawaii for the release of
$400,000, as authorized by Act 289, Session Laws of Hawaii
1993, as amended by Act 252, Session Laws of Hawaii 1994, for
the Mamo Theater, Hawaii project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable John
Waihee, Governor of the State of Hawaii and to the Honorable
Stephen K. Yamashiro, Mayor of the County of Hawaii.
