HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 025 Draft 01 1988-1992COUNTY OF HAVIF~~~x .~n;tSTATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION No ~.5 89 WHEREAS, Senator Malama Solomon and Representative Dwight Takamine have introduced companion legislation into both houses of the State Legislature which proposes to construct health care facilities in North Hawaii; and WHEREAS, this legislation proposes the construction of a new health care facility in Honokaa which will provide long-term care, primary out-patient care and medically assisted retirement housing; and WHEREAS, this legislation also proposes to appropriate money for the planning of a hospital in Waimea which would include acute care, emergency care and skilled nursing services; and WHEREAS, this legislation is endorsed by community groups which have long sought for improvements to the quality of medical care provided in these communities, such as, the North Hawaii Hospital, Inc., the Hamakua District Development Council, the State Department of Health and the State Health Planning and Development Agency; and WHEREAS, prospects look favorable for the construction of a new medical facility in Waimea using both State and private sector funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it fully supports this legislation sponsored by Senator Solomon and Representative Takamine which provides for up-grading the quality of health care facilities and services to North Hawaii. BE I'P FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is hereby instructed to send copies of this resolution to the Honorable John Waihee, Governor; the Honorable Richard Wong, Senate President; the Honorable Daniel Kihano, Speaker of the House; the Honorable Mamoru Yamasaki, Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee; the Honorable Joseph Souki, Chairman of the House Finance Committee; and to Dr. John Lewin, Director of the State Department of Health. These measures appropriate funding for the construction of a new health care facility in Honokaa for long-term care, primary out-patient care and medically assisted retirement housing. These measures also appropriate money for the planning of a hospital in Waimea which would include acute care, emergency care and skilled nursing services. The effect of these measures is to up-grade the quality of health care facilities and services to North Hawaii.
