29 89
WHEREAS, March of 1989 is the nation's third annual Ydomen's
History Month; and
WHEREAS, the theme of this year's Women's History Month,
"Heritage of Strength and Vision," celebrates both the contributions
of heroines and the lives of women from all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women and
the University of Hawaii at Hilo Committee on the Status of Women
have joined forces with other women's organizations to present
special events throughout the month, starting with the Opening Rally
on March 1; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women has
involved students islandwide from kindergarten through high school
in its "Real Women" Creative Writing Contest; and
WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii at Hilo Committee on the
Status of Women's action arm, Ohana '0 wahine, has scheduled a dozen
programs and will display a family history writing project with the
theme, "Women: Nurturers--Warriors" at the UHH library.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognizes the courage and countless contributions of
women in America and Hawaii and unites with them in their
commemoration of March 1989 as Women's History Month.

Your Committee on Human Services and Recreation to which was referred
Resolution No. 29-89, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 29-89 is to recognize the courage and
contributions of women in America and Hawaii and unite with them in
their commemoration of March 1989 as Women's History Month.
Your Committee finds that the Hawaii County Committee on the Status
of Women and the University of Hawaii at Hilo Committee on the Status
of Women have worked with other women's groups to present many
special events based on the theme, Heritage of Strength and Vision,
during March. Your Committee further finds that the celebration of
the countless contributions of heroines and of women from all walks
of life are worthy of commendation and recognition.
Your Committee on Human Services and Recreation is in accord with the
purpose of Resolution No. 29-89 and recommends its adoption by the
County Council. ~
