HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 045 Draft 01 1988-1992OFFICE INFORMATION ONLY Meeting: April 19, 1989 Action: Approve and adopt PC Report No. 27 Re: Res. 45-89 - COUNTY OF HAWA,~~,z ' ' :STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION No. 45 89 WHEREAS, the District of Kau is in need of addressing its water resources problems which include but are not limited to the following: 1. Insufficient supply of water (agricultural and domestic); 2. Unreliable source of water; 3. Inadequate storage; 4. Lack of water limits development; 5. Wind and water erosion at South Point; 6. Soil erosion on macadamia nut lands; 7. Improve distribution system; and WHEREAS, River Basin studies, under the leadership and coordination of the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) in the United States Department of Agriculture, provide accurate technical data on the current and projected availability and condition of natural resources; and WHEREAS, said technical data is vital in the determination of the best uses of our limited natural resources and the protection of our environment; and WHEREAS, the River Basin Study of the Kau district will inventory information available in reports, studies, etc., to develop a water-budget and to offer recommendations which will set forth priorities to provide direction for the implementation of projects; and WHEREAS, a requirement of a River Basin Study is to obtain sponsors to support the project, sponsorship could range from monetary contributions, information, maps to aerial photos and others. IvOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY 'PHE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it participate as a sponsor of the River Basin Study for the Kau district. BE ZT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk transmit copies of this resolution to the Akana, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; Kau Conservation District; Mr. Ken Kaneshiro, Mr. William Sewake, Manager, Department o Ono, Chief Engineer, Department of Public of the County of Hawaii Honorable Bernard K. Soil and Water Soil Conservation Service; E Water Supply and Mr. Hugh Works. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 19th day of A.nril , 1989.
