COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the 19th Annual Kona Coffee Festival is being held from November 4
thru 11, 1989 in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Kona Coffee, introduced to Hawaii in 1928 and grown by some 900
farmers in the Districts of North and South Kona, is the only coffee which is
commercially cultivated in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the flavorful qualities and richness of Kona Coffee have
established it as a gourmet coffee and through our 27 local processors, is now
marketed worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the annual Kona Coffee Festival features Kona Coffee and the
culture around it and i;,zcludes a variety of events such as the Coffee Festival
Parade, the Miss Kona Coffee Pageant, a Cupping Competition where international
tasters determine Kona's best coffee, a Professional Chef Cuisine Exhibit and
Tasting Competition, an Amateur Coffee Recipe Contest, a Coffee Picking Contest,
a Farm Fair, a Crafts Fair, a Photo Contest, and Displays of Kona's Historical
past; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii recognizes the importance of
Kona Coffee to the economy of the State of Hawaii.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
it extends its best wishes to the Kona Coffee Industry and to the participants
of the 19th Annual Kona Coffee Festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a
copy of this Resolution to the 1989 Kona Coffee Festival Committee.

Resolution No. 100-89, regarding the 19th Annual Kona Coffee

The purpose of Resolution No. 100-89 is to recognize the 19th Annual
Kona Coffee Festival, which is being held from November 4 through
11, 1989, in Kona, and extend the Council's best wishes for a
successful week of activities.
Your Committee on Economic Development concurs with Resolution
No. 100-89 and recommends its adoption.
