HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 109 Draft 02 1988-1992OFFICE INFORMATION ONLY Meeting: November 15, 1989 Action: Approve and adopt EDC-8 Re: Res. 109-89, As Amended COUNTY OF HAWgIS~, '~~?:.:STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION No. 1__ 9 89 (DRAFT 2) WHEREAS, the World Hydrogen Energy Conference, HAWAII HYDROGEN 90, will be held July 22 through 27, 1990 in Honolulu and at Waikoloa on the island of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, this biennial conference with dual themes of "Hydrogen--the Best Hope for a Sustainable Future" and "Hydrogen--a Key to Energy Security" is expected to bring together scientists, engineers, and government officials from more than 50 nations to view and discuss the state of international hydrogen research and development specifically in the use of renewable resources to produce hydrogen and the integration of hydrogen and biomass gasification to produce methanol; and WHEREAS, the rising costs of petroleum and the growing concerns over the effects of fossil fuels on our environment make the study and development of alternate energy resources such as hydrogen noteworthy and appropriate; and WHEREAS, the Big Island of Hawaii is pleased to offer the conference participants a view of its efforts in developing alternate energy resources with its facilities in wind, solar, ocean thermal energy conversion and biomass energy production. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it offers the many participants of the World Hydrogen Energy Conference its congratulations as they convene Hawaii Hydrogen 90 at Waikoloa, island of Hawaii and extends its warmest welcome as they visit the many facilities on the island of Hawaii. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a copy of this resolution to the conference host, the Hawaii National Energy Institute, the Pacific International Center of High Technology, the Hawaii Department of Business and Economic Development and the Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 15th day of November , 1989.
