HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 118 Draft 02 1988-1992OFFICE INFORMATION ONLY Meeting: December 20, 1989 Action: APP rove and adopt EDC-10 Res. 118-89> Draft 2 Re: COUNTY OF HAVIIA,~, :_rSTATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION No, (DRAFT 2) 118 89 WHEREAS, the Big Island is emerging as the prime tourist attraction in the State of Hawaii as a result of the development of quality resort destinations here over the last several years; and 4dHEREAS, with this emergence has come a change in provincial methods of tourist promotion of the past to a more sophisticated approach which combines and consolidates tourist marketing dollars from the State, County and private sector into a more effective promotional plan; and WHEREAS, the recent formation of the Big Island Group (BIG) which unites all Big Island tourist destinations into an organization designed to stretch dollars on a new promotional effort; and WHEREAS, the recent expression of support for this promotion plan by the Board of Directors of BIG and the Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Visitors Bureau strengthens this effort and will present a unified image of both the private and public sectors to the State Legislature on the matter of tourism promotion. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it supports this new tourist promotional effort and joins with BIG and Hawaii Chapter HVB in agreeing to consolidate promotional funds in a unified thrust to promote the Big Island as a whole. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to send copies of this resolution to the Honorable John Waihee, Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Honorable Bernard Akana, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; the Honorable Richard Wong, President of the Senate; the Honorable Daniel Kihano, Speaker of the House of Representatives; the Honorable Milton Holt, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, Recreation and Planning; the Honorable Romy M. Cachola, Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism; the Chairman of the Big Island Business Council; the Chairman of the Big Island Chapter, HVB; the President of the Big Island Group (BIG); the President of the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, and the Director of the Department of Business and Economic Development. Your Committee on Economic Development amended the resolution to include the Big Island Business Council (BIBC) as a recipient of the resolution.
