COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Hawaii County has experienced and is experiencing
substantial population growth; and
WHEREAS, the current number of shoreline recreational areas are
inadequate to meet the recreational needs of Hawaii County's growing
population; and
WHEREAS, the people of Hawaii County are in dire need of
additional shoreline recreational areas; and
WHEREAS, a remnant of Alii Drive, a County owned road, and
adjacent State owned land is available for development of a public
shoreline park; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of
Hawaii that the Alii Drive remnant as set forth in the attached
EXHIBIT "A" and State owned land adjacent thereto be developed into a
public shoreline park and that no other development or transfer of
ownership be permitted thereon pending the development of this land as
a public park for the use and enjoyment of all Hawaii County citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
instructed to send copies of this resolution to the Honorable
John D. Waihee III, Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Honorable
Bernard K. Akana, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; and
William W. Paty, Jr., Chairman of the Department of Land and Natural
Resources.
